Dayna Karle was charismatic, beautiful, and brave; she lit up any room she walked into. Her laughter and sense of humour were contagious and she had a way of making everyone feel welcomed.

Tragically, Dayna lost her life due to her struggles with addiction, forever changing the lives of her family and friends.

This fundraising campaign has been established as a partnership between Kelly Mental Health Foundation and the Mighty Warriors to break down barriers for women, ages 18-45, who are struggling to access mental health counselling.
*Donations for sessions are services provided by mental health specialists holding a minimum Master-Level degree in Social Work or Psychology, licensed and in good standing with OCSWSSW, CRPO, or CPO.

How does it work?

KMHF collects donations that cover the costs of standard session fees for professional counselling in Ontario. Businesses can support other businesses, individuals can pay it forward, anyone can help.

Prospective clients can apply for session coverage on kmhfoundation.ca.

Depending on available funds, clients will be contacted with the status of their approvals and a list of the first available treatment providers to choose from.

Clients sign appointment verification sheets at each session (or confirm attendance with their provider by email if sessions are online only).

Treatment provider bills KMHF directly for services.
Please make note that we are a registered nonprofit corporation but not a registered charity at this time.

General Donation
General donations go towards our educational mental health magazine, mental wellness seminars, or can be combined with other smaller donations to fund the cost of a counselling session.
Counselling Session - $150.00
A single session with a mental health counsellor will include assessment of presenting issues, gathering background information, developing therapeutic rapport, and setting goals for treatment or providing recommendations for alternative services.
Crisis Counselling Session - $200.00
A crisis session provided on short notice will include assessment of immediate issues, gathering relevant background information, implementing stabilization techniques and skills as well as safety planning and recommendations for treatment.
Counselling Treatment Set - $1000.00
A short-term treatment set of 6 counselling sessions begins with an assessment of presenting issues, and working with the client to develop goals for treatment, such as alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety. Sessions focus on stabilization and emotion regulation skills, psycho-education and development of insight to better understand the issues and ways of managing, and positive coping skills. A full treatment set allows for the client to develop a supportive relationship with the therapist while using current issues to implement and reinforce healthy coping mechanisms and improve their quality of life.
6 EMDR Counselling Sessions - $1200.00
EMDR sessions are highly effective for the treatment of trauma, including any distressing experience that changes one's world view and negatively influences a person's ability to cope. This therapy utilizes bilateral stimulation to assist clients in making connections with, and processing their traumatic experiences. Early sessions focus on building stabilization skills such as using "Calm Place" and identifying positive cognitions. Sessions focused on processing are highly intense and often result in full resolution of trauma symptoms.

Frequently asked questions

What will my first counselling session be like?
While every clinician has their own style, your first counselling session should be about getting to know you, hearing the parts of your story you are comfortable with sharing, and getting an opportunity to learn psychological strategies to manage the things you are dealing with.
Who can benefit from counselling?
Anyone and everyone can benefit from counselling. We all have complicated histories, concerns and problems in our lives at some time or another.
What is EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy)?
EMDR is a type of therapy that uses a person’s own rapid and rhythmic eye movements to reprocess difficult experiences.  It is often used when working with trauma and works by connecting traumatic memories with new information.  This helps any distressing thoughts and emotions to become blended with new positive thoughts and emotions allowing people to resolve blocks or stuck points through activating the person’s natural healing processes.
Why is it a good idea to go to therapy?
Therapy is an incredibly useful tool – a means to an end - that helps with a range of issues anywhere from anxiety to relationships to trauma to the Covid-19 pandemic. Continuous research shows that counselling is incredibly effective in helping people manage mental health conditions. Just being able to talk to someone without fear of judgment or criticism is a powerful way to better ourselves.
What is the difference between Kelly Mental Health Foundation and Kelly Mental Health?
Kelly Mental Health is a full-service mental health clinic owned by Linda Kelly, MSW, RSW, that employs clinical staff providing professional counselling services to individuals and families in Northwestern Ontario. The Kelly Mental Health Foundation, also founded by Linda Kelly, is a separate, registered nonprofit corporation led by a Board of Directors seeking to promote mental health awareness and break down barriers for all people to be able to access professional counselling sessions from any qualified practitioner.
