Counselling Support
Donations to the KMH Wellness Foundation have connected people to trauma-focused crisis counselling services since 2019.
It is our vision to build a robust network of highly qualified private practitioners that can accept clients with minimal wait times and fees covered by our organization.
We strive to continue connecting people in need with therapists that know how to help when it matters most.

Counselling.
Our vision is to be able to provide and facilitate barrier-free mental health counselling services to children, teens, and adults, at no cost to the client. From walk-in to long-term treatment options, we strive to supply a reliable and affordable resource for counselling in our community.
Why Is Counselling So Important?
To manage adversity, we must identify the problem, acknowledge how it affects us, feel the feelings, and process what happened.
Only then can we apply what we have learned to our lives and then take steps to build the kind of life we want. But when we are struck by overwhelming feelings and losses, sometimes avoidance is the only way to survive. And avoidance works until it doesn't.
Counselling is about building insight into our patterns, understanding the things we have been shaped to do that aren't working so well for us anymore, and learning about new ways to perceive our experiences. It's about taking inventory of what's going on, learning to approach the future with hope, and taking deliberate steps to create and nurture a fulfilling life.

What Can I expect in counselling for the first time?
While every clinician has their own style, your first counselling session should be about getting to know you, hearing the parts of your story you are comfortable with sharing, and getting an opportunity to learn psychological strategies to manage the things you are dealing with.
Who can benefit from counselling?
Anyone and everyone can benefit from counselling. We all have complicated histories, concerns and problems in our lives at some time or another.
What is EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy)?
EMDR is a type of therapy that uses a person’s own rapid and rhythmic eye movements to reprocess difficult experiences. It is often used when working with trauma and works by connecting traumatic memories with new information. This helps any distressing thoughts and emotions to become blended with new positive thoughts and emotions allowing people to resolve blocks or stuck points through activating the person’s natural healing processes.
Why is it a good idea to go to therapy?
Therapy is an incredibly useful tool – a means to an end - that helps with a range of issues anywhere from anxiety to relationships to trauma to the Covid-19 pandemic. Continuous research shows that counselling is incredibly effective in helping people manage mental health conditions. Just being able to talk to someone without fear of judgment or criticism is a powerful way to better ourselves.

Counselling sessions are provided to individuals, couples, and families to address issues such as:
depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, abuse, anger, family violence, relationships, violence and harassment, sexual violence & assault, and many others.
Services for Groups and Organizations
Scheduling a debrief with a trained professional within 48 hours of an incident has been shown to reduce traumatic stress to a significant degree.
Distressing situations in the workplace are unavoidable. Group Support and Debriefing can assist your organization by raising awareness of the emotional impact of stressful situations, helping your team work together, teaching helpful coping skills, and facilitating a return to normalcy.
KMH Foundation supports the use of group support and debriefing services for all organizations, businesses, and community groups that could benefit from them.
